EuroMedITI and Synaptic Laboratories Ltd sign a Partnership Agreement31/07/2009Companies take a significant step towards creating the first ICT Cluster of Excellence in Gozo Malta Government Agency EuroMedITI Ltd and Synaptic Laboratories Limited on June 24 2009, in the presence of the Minister for Gozo, the Hon. Giovanna Debono and the Gozo Business Chamber, signed a Partnership Agreement. The Partners will undertake a detailed four month study for the establishment of a globally unique, virtual ICT Cluster of Excellence on Gozo. The Hon. Giovanna Debono Minister for Gozo, said: “This Government has invested heavily into ICT infrastructure as a key enabler for social and economic development. Today I strongly support this Partnership between EuroMedITI and Synaptic Laboratories Limited. My Ministry will be actively participating in its Steering Committee. I see this as a very positive step towards creating the first ICT Research and Development Cluster of Excellence in Gozo.” The ICT Cluster of Excellence, which is actively being promoted by the Gozo Business Chamber, is focused on Post Quantum Security. Quantum computers exist and their well funded development in most regions and eventual availability, will present significant information security problems to Governments and businesses. Essential standards based security systems used today will fail against attacks made possible by these same computers presenting a clear risk of massive data breaches and exploitation of past and present secure information. The tools and processes developed by the organizations involved in the proposed cluster are expected to provide sophisticated protection against this risk, as well as preventing unauthorized access to Government and corporate operating systems and programmes, which would be possible through the use of quantum computer attacks. The Partners to the Agreement are EuroMedITI www.euromediti.com and Synaptic Laboratories Limited www.synaptic-labs.com. Dr. John Attard, CEO of EuroMedITI, said "EuroMedITI was set up by the Government of Malta in 2007 in order to accelerate the transfer of critical technologies in to and within the Euro-Mediterranean region, utilising Malta as a testbed for technology adaption and exploitation. ICT is a key sector focus, and our partnership with Synaptic Laboratories will enable the Maltese Islands and the region to significantly benefit from the development of unique, cutting edge technologies in the exciting and rapidly developing world of Post Quantum Security. EuroMedITI has earlier been involved in the setting up of the Marine Software engineering Cluster of Excellence (MARSEC-XL). EuroMedITI's shareholders are: Malta Enterprise, MCST, the University of Malta and the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Industry.” Synaptic Laboratories Limited is a research and development Company ready to bring forward low cost post quantum security solutions to protect essential business infrastructure such as e-Commerce (SSL/TLS), email, Secure Shell (SSH) and virtual private networks (VPN). Synaptic’s solutions will run on many platforms including smart cards, personal computers, and business servers. Synaptic CEO Ron Kelson says: “The Synaptic approach to addressing the needs of the global ICT community is unique. We are promoting an easy upgrade path that allows many commercial off the shelf security systems and proprietary business systems to be protected without any need to modify their existing protocols. The Synaptic solutions can be described as security filters that wrap-around and protect the network traffic generated by these products. These filters act as Exoskeletons, protecting the at-risk standards based security components used by these products. This approach allows organisations that must use FIPS 140 security certified devices to continue using these devices. Companies will be able to continue to maintain their current security standards, business operations and systems while achieving rapid low cost post quantum security.” Enquiries are welcome from local interested parties and may be directed to Ron Kelson on +356 79562164 or r.kelson@synaptic-labs.com and Dr John Attard on +356 21224544 or ceo@euromediti.com « Go to news archive |
